March 27, 2002 Celine's Hubby Leveled With Rape Accusations There are marriages and then there are marriages. Check out this CNN story about the marital difficulties currently being encountered by Quebec pop star Celine Dion and her husband Rene Angelil. According to the report, Angelil is being sued for allegedly raping Yun Kyeong Sung Kwon, a Korean ordained minister of the Full Gospel World church in Los Angeles. The twist in this story comes when several months after the alleged March 2000 incident, Angelil payed "a lot of money" to Kwon to settle this matter. Approximately two years after the occurrence, the Kwons apparently became disenchanted with the original settlement and are now looking for more payola. |

According to Rene's attorney Marty Singer, he acknowledged Angelil paid "a lot of money" to settle the claims made by the Kwons, but said he only agreed to do so because "he wanted to protect the health of himself, his wife and his unborn child at a time when he was fighting cancer and his wife had finally become pregnant after struggling with the horrible physical and emotional strain of enduring protracted fertility treatments." In response to Singer's comments, does his client make a habit of paying "a lot of money" to any opportunist who comes along and alleges wrongdoing against him? If you are in the clear, you pay your attorney to defend you, not some opportunist looking for a quick buck. |

These allegations come at a bad time for Celine and hubby Rene since Dion is currently releasing a new album and, considering the current pathetic state of the music industry, she can use all of the positive publicity she can get. In a predictible fashion, Dion has also stated that she stands behind Rene. In addition, to show that life is still a bowl of cherries for Celine and Rene, Angelil walked onto the set of the Oprah show carrying their one year old child. Since a gag order has been placed on this case, it is unlikely main street and by the book Oprah asked Celine and Rene anything about the alleged rape.
