Feb 11, 2002 Copy Protected CDs Will Eventually Benefit Consumer There has been a great deal of negative ink recently about copy protected CDs, those $20.00 round plastic things which reportedly have problems working in many modern day CD players. Although we were against the technology when it was initially announced, we have since had a change of heart and are now fully supporting copy protection. Here's our reasoning. Copy protected CDs are beneficial for the music consumer because, in the long run, they will serve to drive down music sales to all-time lows. How is this good for the consumer? Well, it will expedite the recording labels' demise, which is a REQUIREMENT for quality music to make a comeback. The labels ignored the warnings and proceeded with their ill advised plan to copy protect or "damage" CDs. The recording industry obviously underestimated the intelligence of their customers and now they're taking it on the chin. You see, a great number of people who purchase CDs (or should we say, who formerly purchased CDs) belong to the younger generation. Although most of these adolescents are not old enough to legally drink, they can run circles around most music executives when it comes to utilizing a computer. Now, when you start fucking with this younger crowd by altering what they are able to do with a CD (copy protection prevents recording, encoding to MP3 and other fun things kids like to do with music), they will tell you to take your "damaged" CD and stick it where the sun don't shine! That is a fact, Jack! The net result: decreased sales of lousy CandyAss music nobody is interested in buying anyway. Therefore, the music industry attempted to screw the consumer and, in the end, the industry will be the ones getting screwed. What's the old cliche - the customer is always right? In this case, the customer is not only right by avoiding copy protected CDs, eventually, the music fan will be rewarded by making the wise choice of boycotting this inferior product. The downfall of the labels will bring on a brave new world of music. Without knowing it, the industry is doing an efficient job of killing off the CD - an overpriced sham if there ever was one. It's about time they did something right. Desperado Times For Metallica Metallica recently announced they will be recording a song with some hip-hop/rap artist, whose name mysteriously escapes mention. Don't blame us - they all sound and look the same. The heavy metal act has not released any quality material in approximately 15 years and is obviously desparate for some cheaper than cheap publicity. When a once satisfactory rock act has to ride the popularity coat tails of some ghetto rapper, isn't it time to throw in the towel? Just another example of the full scale grave digging going on in the rock music industry today. Carson Daly Joins Music Maggots Carson Daly, MTV VJ extraordinare, has raised a few eyebrows by starting his own music label. According to Carson, he has the amazing gift of being able to spot and cultivate new musical talent (or he said some bullshit along those lines). Let's give Carson a break. Despite the fact that his television show is as exciting as watching paint dry, he deserves to have his own record label - along side the other losers in the music industry today. Why give the job to someone who actually has ability and talent when you can have an ass kisser and music maggot like Carson fuck everything up? Looks like Carson will join the ranks of the CD in becoming a forgettable thing of the past. Grammy Awards Losing Credibility A Grammy is not what it used to be. Winning a Grammy Award these days says you can boast about beating out music powerhouses like Limp Bizkit, NSYNC, JLO and all the other recording industry legends. Wow - now that's a major accomplishment! In other words, you can take your Grammy and stick it up your Granny! Sphinx |
