Feb 22, 2002 US Copyright Office Needs To Be Thoroughly Investigated The recent decision on webcaster rates by arbitrators appointed by the US Copyright Office only serves to reinforce the idea that the Copyright office needs to be investigated. After siding with the labels on the webcaster issue by setting exorbitantly high rates, the office is obviously being blatantly biased. This is the same Copyright office which ruled several months ago that no change in outdated copyright law is currently required. Even though new technologies like the internet have changed the way copyrighted material is distributed, the office also sided with the labels when making their decision not to examine and update copyright laws. Does the copyright office have some sort of hidden agenda here siding with the industry on both of these matters? If the office was neutral and had both the artists' and consumers' best interests in mind, their decisions on both matters would have been much more equitable. Sphinx |
