Sphinx Boycotts Artists Who Pull Montreal No-Show

It has been reported that radio giant Clear Channel pulls radio airplay from artists who refuse to use their concert promotion services. Whether this is true or not is unknown. However, this is a great idea that the Sphinx has decided to elaborate on.

The Sphinx Niteclub, who has been promoting rock and alternative music since the late '70s (before any of these other corporate promotional services if you are keeping track), has decided to discontinue promoting artists who are kind enough to skip Montreal during their current tours.

We have compiled a list of artists who are currently on tour and are adroitly avoiding Montreal. Since we are not interested in providing these artists with any publicity whatsoever, we will refrain from even mentioning their names. They know who they are.

If you are a Montreal radio station and would like to join us in this boycott by pulling these artists from your playlist, please e-mail us and we will send you a list of the artists who have decided to screw Montreal on their current tour plans.

Chances are that Montreal radio stations will not join in this boycott since one or two of them are owned by Toronto companies. You see, most of these artists are playing in Toronto, therefore, their radio programmers do not want to piss off the parent company.

Unlike some of these local Montreal radio stations, the Sphinx is a Montreal product 100%. We have absoultely no conflict of interest in supporting the city where we live and work.

Why is the Sphinx proceeding with this boycott? Well, since the Sphinx has been promoting and playing these artists literally before anyone else decided to jump on the bandwagon (and to this day, we are still promoting them on our web site), we feel these greedy ass corporate puppets should show a tiny bit of appreciation by playing just one show here. Unfortunately, making a quick buck is more important to these artists than showing some respect and courtesy to some real fans.

To make our decision to boycott the promotion of these artists easier, the labels and artists have agreed to screw over webcasters by setting unrealistically high webcasting fees. Therefore, we do not intend on going into a financial hole so these washed up assholes can sell their crap.

Although webcasters may not realize it at this time, the unreasonably high webcasting fees are a blessing in disguise. Ultimately, it will save the webcasters from dumping money into a business model that is just not profitable. The webcasters are better off letting these artists and labels go find free promotion elsewhere. Good luck!

When we asked the Sphinx FrontMan Yan when he intends on promoting these artist no-shows again, he replied by stating, "When they wake the fuck up and decide to play a show here. It is kind of obvious that since most of these artists have to go and make a buck in Vegas, their careers are over anyway."

The FrontMan went on to add, "We may reconsider and make a quick mention of these artists and play a song for them when they pass away." Even that is not guaranteed.

Now, for a list of artists who are considerate enough to play in Montreal this summer, you can click here to visit Pollstar. To purchase tickets for Montreal concerts, you can visit Admission.com.
